Bokashi is a Japanese pre-composting technique used for soil enhancement. It uses all kitchen waste and can be done inside the home. No sorting, no turning. There is no carbon footprint created during the process. This Zoom presentation will discuss the process, materials needed, time, best practices to incorporate in soil for enhancement and Bokashi tea use.

Shital Parikh has been practicing the Bokashi technique for over 7 years. She has been a Master Gardener since 2014. She has also done Master Composting certification from Solana Center. Shital is a resident of San Diego for over 30 years. She has two graduate degrees in corporate communications, media, and social change. Shital came to gardening through her love for cooking and started growing her own food over 20 years ago in the quest for optimum ingredients. She has branched into pollinator gardens and assists schools and communities install pollinator gardens and monarch way stations. She identifies with the sentiment of David Hobson, "I grow plants for many reasons: to please my soul, to challenge the elements or my patience, for novelty or nostalgia, but mostly for the joy in seeing them grow." Composting to me completes the natural circle of life and therefore integral to the process of growing and sustainable living.
