Most months, the San Diego Horticultural Society features a garden for a private tour by society members.

This is an opportunity to visit a beautiful garden, take a self-paced garden tour, and socialize with other society members.

If you have or know of a garden that would be a suitable Monthly Featured Garden please email Jim Bishop.

Due to space constraints, only a limited number of members will be able to attend.

Advance reservations are required.

October's open garden is the beautiful garden of Karen Kees in Poway.

Who says we don't have fall foliage color in San Diego.  Currently the garden has over 200 coleus on display. Koelruetaria bipinnata trees in the garden are dropping their golden rain of tiny flowers painting the walkways yellow--it's stunning.

Don't miss the wonderful display free to SDHS members.

    • If parking near the house is full, there may a bit of a walk from your car to the house. More parking is available on the cross street below the cul d' sac. Or come later in the day when there are fewer people!
    • Carpooling is recommended.
    • Comfortable shoes for walking recommended.
    • Handicapped access to the garden is limited.

Featured Garden and Studio Sale in Encinitas

On Saturday, November 10, join us in the stunning garden of ceramist Laird Plumleigh in Encinitas.

Laird's home was on the 2018 Garden Tour, and we're excited to experience it again AND have the opportunity to shop in his ceramics studio. The Featured Garden and Studio Sale will take place from 11AM-2PM. Please note that purchases can be made with cash and checks only.

Laird Plumleigh's two-acre rustic and informal garden features 30-year-old succulents, fantastical garden art, water features, an aviary, and a unique collection of mature plants, all suited to San Diego’s dry climate. Stroll the garden and meander through Laird's working tile studio complete with a walk-in kiln and racks of tiles and garden art for sale. Laird's artistry has been featured in numerous publications and can be seen at local landmarks including the Lodge at Torrey Pines.

Please note that parking will be at a premium, so it would be best to plan to park about 200 yards away at Capri Elementary School and walk to Laird's home.

    • Event is for SDHS Members only.
    • Address sent with registration confirmation.
    • Carpooling is recommended.
    • There are uneven surfaces in the garden. Please wear walking shoes and watch your step.
    • Purchases made with cash or check only.
