January Featured Garden
Kick off the new year with a self-guided tour of Jim Bishop and Scott Borden's hillside garden in Mission Hills. Many of the large aloes and low water plants are in full bloom.
Their 1930's Spanish-revival style house and garden in Mission Hills overlooks Mission Valley. Scott and Jim have been gardening on the steep hillside for 24 years. In 2003, an old, cold, swimming pool was filled in and replaced by a walled garden with a stair tower and outdoor room for entertaining. More recently, rock mosaic paths wind down the terraced hillside to a large mosaic landing 5 stories below the house surrounded by gardens featuring low-water usage plants from South Africa, Australia, the Mediterranean and South America. There is a succulent and bromeliad garden in front of the house and many potted plants in the courtyards and terraces plus thousands of recycled bottles and found items throughout the garden.
