Guided Walk at San Elijo Lagoon

Escape the heat and join us for a cool docent-led evening walk at San Elijo Lagoon.  You'll learn about the ecology of this lagoon that makes this a special place. The walk starts at the Solana Beach side of the Lagoon where we will break into small groups for a private tour.

San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve is located in north San Diego County, between Encinitas and Solana Beach, extending inland to Rancho Santa Fe.

Our docent led walk will explore part of the  979-acre reserve, home to hundreds of species of unique plants and animals.

San Elijo Lagoon is one of the largest coastal wetlands in San Diego. Trails wind through six plant communities, home to:

  • 400 species of plants
  • 300 species of birds (of which 65 have been documented to nest in the reserve)
  • 23 species of fish
  • 20 species of reptiles and amphibians
  • 26 species of mammals
The tour starts east of I-5 at the Santa Carina Trail. Driving directions are emailed in registration email confirmation message.
