Speaker: Roy Wilburn, Horticulture Manager at Sunshine Care in Poway
Roy was a commercial tomato grower in Baja, California for 20 years and now maintains the organic greens at Sunshine Care. There, he supplies 20,000 pounds a year of fresh, high quality fruits and vegetables for the residents' daily menus and families-in-need in the Poway area. Vine-ripe tomatoes are the star of the gardens.
Description: Roy will give you his take on all aspects of tomato production from seedlings to harvest. You will get tips on varietal selection, soil preparation, fertilization, pest/disease control, and cultural practices. He will touch on heirlooms, cherry tomatoes, roma tomatoes, and, of course, those red vine-ripes. Also, you will learn how to graft your own tomato seedlings for increased vigor and production.
To be held rain or shine.
