Growing Organic Fall & Winter Vegetables 
Instructor: Roy Wilburn

Soil preparation, varietal selections, pests, and fertilization of Fall/ Winter crops will be covered at Sunshine Care with speaker Roy Wilburn, Director of Horticulture.  Tour of the extensive gardens to follow the open discussion.  Share questions, answers and comments on previous fall endeavors and... how is that summer crop doing?


Roy Wilburn was a commercial tomato, pepper and strawberry grower in Mexico for 20 years.  He then went on to be the grower for Herb Thyme Farms in Oceanside for about 3 years.  He is now the Director of Horticulture at Sunshine Care, A Community of Assisted Living Homes in Poway.  There he manages 5 organic fields, a greenhouse, a rose garden and two fruit tree orchards plus the landscaping of the 32-acre facility. He also oversees food bank gardens on site and school gardens.

  • Umbrella or Sunscreen, as required
  • Hat
  • Garden gloves, if preferred
  • Water
  • Casual dress
  • Closed-toe shoes REQUIRED

Registration will close three days before the event.  If you must cancel, be considerate and allow enough time to let another member register and attend.
