Welcome to the World of Bromeliads

This workshop with be an overall introduction to the Bromeliaceae, the family of new world plants that includes more than 3500 identified species and thousands of hybrids. In recent years bromeliads have become more popular in Southern California gardens because of their ease of care and their water wise habits. The workshop will include an overview of the major genera, how to grow, divide and propagate the plants.  There will be a demonstration on potting as well as mounting the epiphytic bromeliads.

Robert Kopfstein has been a grower of bromeliads for forty years.  He is a (nearly) retired professor of English and reading who has been involved with the San Diego Botanic Garden, first as a trustee (for nine years) and now as a docent.  He is a master judge with the Bromeliad Society International, and is a member both BSI and the San Diego Bromeliad Society.
